Are you homeless or know someone who is? If you are trying to live your life on the streets, I would imagine you are in a place spiritually where you might be calling out to God. You wish He would speak to you.

Or, if you know someone in that position, how do you know what Scriptures to share with that person? Where do you find those verses--Bible quotes for the homeless?

The following is a list of passages you can turn to in order to hear God speak regarding this issue.

encouragement Needed: A list of
Bible quotes for the homeless

1 Samuel 2:8

He raises the poor from the dust And lifts the beggar from the ash heap, To set them among princes And make them inherit the throne of glory. “For the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, And He has set the world upon them.

The first Bible quote for the homeless I wanted to share--1 Samuel 2:8-- carries a powerful message of hope and dignity for someone experiencing homelessness. The imagery of God raising the poor from the dust and lifting the needy from the ash heap suggests a divine intervention in their circumstances.

It emphasizes a transformation from a place of lowliness to a position of honor and influence, symbolized by being seated with princes and inheriting a throne.

The verse communicates the idea that God's care and sovereignty extend to the most vulnerable, highlighting the worth and significance of every individual, regardless of their current circumstances.

The message of 1 Samuel 2:8 offers reassurance that, ultimately, God has the whole world in His hands and personally and individually offers a sense of support and steadiness, especially when times are tough.

Psalm 34:17-18

"The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and saves such as have a contrite spirit."

Psalm 34:17-18 is like a warm embrace from God. It says that when righteous people ask for help, God, as a personal assistant from heaven, hears them and rescues them from troubles. Plus, it mentions that God is especially close to those feeling broken inside, offering comfort and healing.

So, for someone going through hard times, it's a reminder that God is not impersonal and aloof. The passage makes clear that they're not alone, and there's a caring presence looking out for them in their struggles.

Matthew 11:28-30

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

For a homeless person who is seeking guidance on a resolution in relation to jobs and housing, he or she can find an encouraging message from Jesus in the midst of the process. The Lord not only wants to work in the midst of the outward situation but also address the needs of the inner person--the spirit.

If life on the streets feels tough and overwhelming, Jesus has an open invitation just for you. Among His Bible quotes for the homeless include this verse that states, "Come to Me, if you're laboring and feeling weighed down, and I'll give you rest."

You don't have to carry the weight alone. Learn from Him; Let His gentle and understanding heart comfort you.

Trust that with Him, you'll find a lighter way to carry life's burdens. So, if the journey has been rough, let Jesus bring you some much-needed rest and comfort."

Psalm 23:1-4

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me."

Bible quotes for the homeless--still waters

For someone experiencing homelessness, this verse from Psalm 23 could offer a deeply personal and comforting message.

God offers caring assurance saying, "Even when you're going through really tough times, I'm your constant companion, like a shepherd watching over you. I know your needs, and I'll provide for you, just like green pastures and still waters bring peace. In the midst of uncertainty and challenges, I'm here to restore your spirit and guide you on a path that's right for you. You don't have to fear the darkest moments because I'm right by your side, offering comfort and protection, like a shepherd with a staff. Trust that you're not alone, and I'm leading you through this journey."

Psalm 27:10

"When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me."

For someone facing homelessness, Psalm 27:10 provides a message of hope and reassurance in times of abandonment or loneliness:

Even if it feels like your own family has let you down, remember this: God won't abandon you. When it seems like there's no one else, He's there to take care of you. It's like a promise that you're not alone, and His care is constant. So, in times of loneliness or abandonment, find solace in the assurance that God is there, ready to take care of you.

Matthew 6:26

"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"

Bible Quotes for the Homeless--birds of the air

In another one of Jesus' Bible quotes for the homeless (and others in need), the speaker is drawing attention to the care and provision that birds receive from nature without engaging in traditional forms of work like planting or harvesting.

By asking the listener to consider his/her own value in comparison to these birds, Jesus is aiming to convey a message of reassurance and encouragement.

The implication is that if God takes care of the birds, individuals should have confidence that God values them too and can provide sustenance and support, even in difficult circumstances.

It's a message emphasizing a sense of inherent worth and the belief that, just like the birds, individuals can trust in God for His providence --for their well-being. Of course, life's circumstances might seem to communicate the opposite message. However, perseverance and continued faith are essential.

In regard to God's provision, I should add that He chooses to use obedient disciples to help in that process. One ministry I have connected with that exemplifies this is  called Shepherd's Office located in Georgetown, Delaware. Click on the following link for more information:

Hebrews 13:5-6

"Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.' So we may boldly say: 'The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?'"

If you're homeless or know someone who is, picture the Apostle Paul or a similar Bible character or disciple of Christ sitting at the table, and saying:

"Hey, I came across a message in the Bible that I thought might offer some encouragement. It talks about being content with what you have and trusting that there's someone who will never leave or forsake you. It says, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?' It's a reminder that your worth isn't defined by your current situation, and there's a source of support that goes beyond anything we can imagine. It might be tough right now, but there's hope and strength in knowing you're not alone, and there's something greater looking out for you."

"Life can throw some really tough challenges our way, and it's not always easy to see a clear path forward.

This verse suggests finding contentment in the midst of difficulties and trusting that there's a personal Divine Being watching over us. It doesn't mean the struggles will automatically disappear, but there's a promise of enduring support.

We may not have all the answers, but sometimes having someone to listen can make a difference. What do you think about these words?"

Romans 8:38-39

"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Bible Quotes for the Homeless--above the clouds

"Have you ever heard of this passage from Romans? It's a powerful reminder that, no matter what we go through – be it life's struggles, uncertainties, or even the deepest lows – nothing can separate us from the love of God.

His love transcends everything, and this verse speaks to the idea that, despite our circumstances, we're held and cherished by a love that's constant and enduring. The love of God is a source of strength and comfort, emphasizing that we're never alone in the journey.

And guess what? God's love is eternal. The things of this earth including homes are temporary, while the mansions of heaven are everlasting.

Psalm 9:9-10

"The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You."

Bible Quotes for the Homeless--place of refuge

Image by Gianni Crestani from Pixabay

In this Bible quote for the homeless, you find the emphasis on God being the place of refuge for those facing difficulties. This passage suggests that in times of trouble, turning to the Lord can provide a sense of strength and security. The assurance that God has not forsaken those who seek Him may bring solace and encouragement to individuals experiencing homelessness, reinforcing the idea that they are not alone and can find support in their faith.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal."

Included in the list of Bible quotes for the homeless is this passage from 2 Corinthians. I recently came across these verses, which talk about not losing heart, even when it feels like everything is falling apart. It speaks about the renewal that happens within us each day, despite the challenges we face outwardly.

The idea that our troubles, no matter how heavy they may seem, are temporary and are working towards something eternal and glorious.

God reminds us in this passage, to focus on the bigger picture, on the unseen, and find strength in the idea that there's a renewal happening within us each day.

Other verses to read and meditate on in connection with homelessness include:

  • Isaiah 41:10
  • Philippians 4:19
  • Jeremiah 29:11

May these verses, which can be considered Bible quotes for the homeless, provide comfort and encouragement to those facing challenging circumstances.
